What do they learn each term?

Each term has a different focus, and the students follow a bespoke curriculum, written by Miss Siobhan and her team, which is benchmarked against Trinity College London’s Learning standards and objectives.

At Show Squad we pride ourselves on producing “Triple Threat” performers, who can sing, dance and act at the same time.

A “Triple Threat” performer is a performer who can Act, Sing and Dance. “Triple Threat” performers are multi-talented and well rounded performers who have generally had years of education and performing experience in Acting, Dancing, and Singing.

Occasionally we will have guest tutors in to lead workshops on mask work, costume design, stage management, acting for film, advanced musical theatre dance, guest vocal, and acting coaches.

The course structure

Students will learn the basics of all three disciplines, gain confidence and have fun!

The students will work every week towards a full Musical Theatre Production which will be performed to an audience at the end of term.

The Students will prepare for a group Trinity College London performing arts examination. Every student will recieve a certificate of completion.

Dance

In dance they will work on ballet technique as the foundation to all dance skills. Then they will learn contemporary and musical theatre dance routines for performance.

Dance is great for developing coordination, expression, balance, flexibility and core strength.

At Show Squad we currently don’t offer Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinations, as we are focused on the combination of all three subjects, and we prefer to enter children into Trinity College London exams.

Drama

In drama they will work on improvisation, mime, acting for film, devising, mask work, scripts, voice and characterisation.

Drama is great for developing life long transferable skills such as confidence, presentation skills, communication and empathy. It is also a great way to improve spoken English.

Voice

In voice class the students will learn vocal technique for safe singing and performing.

Ms Siobhan is a voice specialist, with a Masters in Acting Musical Theatre & Voice, and she favours the ‘Estille Voice’ method when teaching young people. Siobhan is very passionate about children developing the correct technique before singing modern songs which use ‘belt technique’, which really shouldn’t be performed by young people until their voices are fully developed.

What is Trinity College London?

Trinity College London has been established since 1872 offering
examinations in Speech and Drama, Communication, Musical Theatre,
Performing Arts, Acting, Pop & Rock, and English.

‘Trinity College London believes that effective communication and performance skills are life-enhancing, know no bounds, and should be within reach of us all.

‘We exist to promote and foster the best possible communicative and performance skills through assessment, content, and training which is innovative, personal, and authentic.’ Find out more on their page here.

Why Trinity and not LAMDA?

Both examination boards are highly reputable, established, and hold accreditation, and Miss Siobhan has taught both curriculums and has been an examiner for LAMDA and Trinity in the past. However, she favours Trinity exams in a stage school environment because of its flexibility to be creative and reward students who prefer to be behind the scenes, and because of the wide range of group examinations they offer.

Miss Siobhan has been teaching drama and performing arts for over 20 years, for some of the top drama schools in London and she has a 95% distinction rate and 100% pass rate with Trinity drama exams, Rock & Pop singing exams, and LAMDA.
